scollage

The scollage is a collage making method that involves composing the collage directly on the scanner bed.  Like a sketch, it’s an explorative process. I use it to explore composition, compare textures, compose scenes and record visual ideas.

Along with the sketch like quality to collaging directly on a scanner bed is the opportunity it brings to variate and manipulate a collage how I wouldn’t otherwise with a cut and paste style. No gluing means record multiple takes of a collage with the same materials in order to compare and analyze interaction of the materials. No glue no problem. Also, the scanning process can be used to stretch and distort the materials by moving them during the scanning process.
